| Well, 2003 is almost over and to cap it off, I have decided to go for it 'LiveJournal-style' by answering a series of questions that you, the reader don't give an utter shite about. Enjoy. 1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
I went fishing. I have never been fishing before because I have always thought that it would be as boring as bat shit. However, I had to hold the line for someone as they took a swig of beer, so I was conned into the act of fishing in a moment of fate. Even though I caught nothing, I still liked it because it involved the least amount of physical exertion as possible, which is always a good thing. 2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I think my resolution was stress less, which everyone knows I never keep because I am a workaholic. I think I will make a resolution for 2004 to inform people of my relaxation deficiency upon meeting them for the first time: "Hello, my name is Anni. I am a Virgo, who likes long walks on the beach and I happen to stress excessively about everything. Do you like extreme sports?" 3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not at all. My family needs to work on that whole childbirth thing methinks. 4. Did anyone close to you die?
My grandmother died of ovarian cancer. 5. What countries did you visit?
I’m too poor to go to any other countries. I have lined up a trip next year though…a friend of mine has offered to let me tag along with her to the UK if I am the one that supplies my own suitcase with air holes drilled in the side. 6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
A sense of stability. Love would also be nice...but mostly stability. 7. What day from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The day my grandmother died (worst) and the day I met John Birmingham (best). 8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting a really bonza GPA at uni, learning how to write properly (ha ha!), meeting new people, growing up and realising that you have to make things happen before the moment passes. 9. What was your biggest failure?
Letting too many moments pass. 10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Sore ribs from stress. 11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new camera. 12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Lene, whose brilliance and upmost honesty helped me set the course for next year. 13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Those half-witted a-holes in power that outed the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS). All of those student protests for nothing (the free BBQs were nice though). 14. Where did most of your money go?
Transport to uni everyday and possibly hot chips from the refectory. 15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Meeting John Birmingham. 16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
"Waking Up Tired" by Hoodoo Gurus. It has become the theme song of my life in general. 17. Compared to this time last year, are you: i. happier or sadder?
Much happier. This time last year I was a mess and resembled something pretty close to the Gollum from Lord of the Rings. I mostly stayed in my room a lot and stressed. It's probably because I lost my preeeeeecious. ii. thinner or fatter?
Fatter. I blame the lifestyle. iii. richer or poorer?
Poorer. Please give. 18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Sleep. Remind me what that is again? 19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Bitching and screaming at people during shoots, projects, etc. 20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Sitting near the ocean. 21. Did you fall in love in 2003?
I fell in lust with someone and this year I realised that it wasn't real at all and that I was just fooling myself. It hurt, but I moved on. 23. How many one-night stands?
Absolutely none that I can remember. 24. What was your favourite TV program?
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. 25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not hate. But I have removed the rose-coloured glasses from my eyes for a few people. 26. What was the best book you read?
Dopeland. 27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Cat Empire. Cheers to Jardz for that. 28. What did you want and get?
Wanted to make some films. Made some films. 29. What did you want and not get?
The person I lusted after. I am glad that I didn't. 30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Bad Eggs. 31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had a buffet Chinese lunch with my mother, grandmother and aunt (I call them 'the Golden Girls') and then later the rest of the family came around and surprised me at home with a cake. Actually, at this place we went to for lunch they organise to have someone to bring out a small cake while "happy birthday to you" plays rather loudly throughout the rest of the restaurant. I remember washing my hands in the ladies at the time, mildly pissed, listening to the familiar jingle in the distance and thinking to myself 'I bet you any money that's mine happening right now'. Turns out I was right, as the music was suddenly cut short and the waitress was sent back with the desperate hand signals of my mother, who mouthed "she's in the toilet!" I could see the look of relief on the waitress's face when she returned some time later to the blaring music with the cake, to see my lop-sided drunken grin. How old was I? It's a secret, darl ;-) 32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably satisfying?
Going out more. Or shooting John Howard in the head...I can't really decide on which is better. 33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
Discombobulated. 34. What kept you sane?
My friends and my work. 35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Probably Robbie Williams. Hey, I can be shallow sometimes... 36. What political issue stirred you the most?
So many to pick from. Should I pick the Higher Education Debacle? Or the Gulf War Fiasco (The Sequel)? Hmmmm... 37. Who did you miss?
The people that I was too busy to see. I am trying to catch up! 38. Who was the best new person you met?
Probably Jardz...such a special person with a unique perspective on things. She is also a very good painter and I should be nice to her because she will no doubt be very rich and successful one day. :-) 39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:
People aren't going to wait for you to come around. Likewise, some people can't always make that choice because they have a plan and order to things. 40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. Oh, the nights are long
And I'm so tired of waking up tired,
Man, they just drag on and on
And I'm so tired of waking up tired.
The company I'm keeping
Won't let me get my sleep in. Oh, I hate the light
And I'm so tired of waking up tired.
The morning sun is getting way too bright
And I'm so tired of waking up tired.
If I was worth a fortune
I'd never leave my bedroom
I just wanna stay right here, safe and sound. Oh, I have to go
But I'm so tired of waking up tired.
The lights are on but there is no-one home
'Cos I'm so wired from waking up tired.
I need a month of Sundays
To help me cope with Mondays,
I just wanna stay right here, safe and sound.
Blankets pulled up to my ears, safe and sound. I need a good vacation
From too much recreation. Oh, I'm late again
And I'm so tired, might even get fired.
I could blame it on a cancelled train
But I won't try it, I know they won't buy it. If I was worth a fortune
I'd never leave my bedroom until next June!
I just wanna stay right here, safe and sound.
Blankets pulled up to my ears, safe and sound.
I just wanna stay right here, safe and sound. There you have it. I hope y'all have a super New Year's Eve, full of drunken debauchery and other fun stuff :-)
